Glencar Lake is southeast of Benbulben on the border of counties Sligo and Leitrim
and about five miles from Sligo Town. A popular fishing/boating area, it is well
known for brown trout, and salmon. During the mayfly season, fishermen flock to
the area.
With mountain forest and lake overlooked by majestic Benbulben, here is
a place of spectacular scenery all year long. Its setting and charm inspired the poet

An abundance of wild flowers and birds make this an attractive area for
birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
Poppies, daisies, lady’s smock, buttercups
and marsh marigolds are in plentiful supply by the roadsides and in the fields.
