The grey heron is a year round resident in Ireland. Single birds are found standing
silent and motionless in shallow water. It watches for any movement, ready to strike
out at any unsuspecting prey with its spear-like bill.
Here it watches and waits at
the edge of the Lackagh River near Lackagh Bridge. This 200-year-old bridge near
Creeslough is still service taking local and tourist traffic into Carrigart, Dowings
and Rosguill peninsula.
The picturesque bridge and surrounding area is popular with
artists and anglers alike.
